Effects of 12 week¡¯s Taekwondo Combined Exercise Program on Body Composition and Physical Fitness in Middle Aged Obese Women

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: To identify effects of Taekwondo combind exercise on body composition and physical fitness of obese adult women, and to create effective Taekwondo programs and a model for excercise therapies.

METHOD: The subjects consisted of two groups, Taekwondo group of 15 women and a control group of 13 women. They were scheduled to work out 60 minutes a day, five times a week for 12 weeks with a level of HRmax 50¡­70%. The difference of body composition and physical fitness in each group before or after the program, and interactive effects of the groups and the time were examined using RMD two-way ANOVA through SPSS/PC 12.0.

RESULT: 12 weeks of the programs of Taekwondo exercise groups were significantly effective in reducing body fat and weight. As to body fat, control groups did not show significant reduction whereas the Taekwondo made a significantly difference. With regards to physical fitness, the Taekwondo program made considerable statistical improvement in flexibility, Harvard steps, grip strength and sit-ups. But the control groups did not show significant improvement.

CONCLUSION: 12 weeks of Taekwondo combined exercise has a positive effect on improvement of body composition and physical fitness in middle aged obese women.
